If you're a landowner wondering how to get started with a restoration project, this event is for you!

Spring Valley Tract, one of DALC's Ambassador Properties, came to us in late 2020. Since then, management and restoration work has been ongoing. After dedicated volunteers spent several seasons clearing brush and preparing the site, we reached a milestone this spring when we were able to carry out a prescribed burn on a portion of the oak savanna. Although lots of work remains, we are excited to share how far we've come in just a few short years.

Join DALC staff, restoration ecologist Craig Annen of Integrated Restorations, and Spring Valley's Site Steward, Fil Sanna, to tour the land and compare "before and after" documentation of our projects. You'll learn how we chose priorities and set goals for restoration work, and get insights on controlling invasive species, carrying out a prescribed burn, finding funding, working with contractors, and more.

Light refreshments will be served at the beginning of the event. The main route of the tour consists of about two miles of hiking. The majority is flat, but there will be two steeper segments where we will climb and then descend a bluff. Attendees who prefer to avoid the steep sections will be able to backtrack to the beginning of the tour with a staff member.
