About the event
Whether you tend a farm or a garden, understanding and nurturing soil health has benefits far beyond your piece of ground. Soil experts will use soil cores, a rainfall simulator, and a trip to a perennial crop field and blueberry patch to describe interactions between land use practices, soil health, and water quality. Learn the basics of carbon sequestration, taking and interpreting soil tests, and creating healthy soil.
Leaders: Patrick Michaels, Twin Crix Farm; Dick Cates, Cates Family Farm; Katie Abbott, Iowa County Conservation Department; Joe Stapleton, Stapleton Farm
Evenings Afield is a program of the Lowery Creek Watershed Initiative. One evening per month, we set aside time for learning in the field from experts and each other, socializing with like-minded landowners and residents, and seeing results of management methods on different properties.
